The Greatest Illusion

When we look at our world, look at the antics of politicians and governments; look at their excitement and fury over the most inconsequential matters, and their apathy regarding the great issues of life. Consider the bitterness and bigotry in the world. Pick up any newspaper any morning, and headlines of disaster, cruelty, unethical behavior, slander, of almost any crime against god or nature that one can imagine will inevitably grace the front page. And the inner pages are not much better. (more…)

Facebook has a constantly evolving advertising platform, and according to Addie Conner it provides many new opportunities for advertisers. She says that Facebook reaches an entirely different segment of audience than Google reaches. Since Google is all about search, people are actively querying for information. On the other hand, Facebook is completely “demand creation.” As Conner explains, Facebook allows advertisers to reach an audience that they couldn’t reach unless they existed across all Google’s content network and all the other content networks. According to Nielsen Wire – Americans spend nearly a quarter of their time online on social networking sites and blogs, up from 15.8 percent just a year ago (43 percent increase) according to new research released today from The Nielsen Company. The research revealed that Americans spend a third their online time (36 percent) communicating and networking across social networks, blogs, personal email and instant messaging.

We all know that scientists around the world have been searching for alien life.  They have been behaving like the ultimate in universal voyeurs, keeping a roving eye out for signs of “other worldly life forms”, poised listening, like the nosey eavesdropping neighbor, for any possible alien transmissions – intergalactic messages.  We are also familiar with the various scenarios science fiction writers have depicted as possible outcomes of alien and human life reaching out and touching one another.  It runs from “Star Trek” to “The Martian Chronicles” and Spielberg’s “E.T.” to “Independence Day”, “Mars Attacks” and even “I Had An Alien’s Baby” in the supermarket tabloids.  (more…)

Vaishali Love’s tip: Practice true human connection and kindness to others by interacting from a “core of love”

BY VAISHALI LOVE,  Whenever we create a “quality meaning” vacuum in life, the emotional and psychological aspects of our existence start to erode and diminish. Ultimately this will affect the physical. As Victor Frankl points out, the ability to choose meaning in our lives is what makes us distinctly and uniquely human. So whether we derive life-enhancing meaning, or suffer from a lack thereof, our choice is going to affect every aspect of our reality.

Nature does not like a vacuum. When we fail to bring a transcendent meaning to our lives, whatever stimulus we are exposed to moves in and defines our internal understanding and knowing of ourselves. The risk is that without actively participating in the search for meaning, the “know thyself” quest becomes a shallow, unsatisfying excursion.

Frankl based his theory of the critical nature of the search for meaning on his real life experience as a Holocaust survivor. But what most interested me in this search is this: within the framework of personal and individual freedom to create meaning, are there some universal choices that would bring liberating results no matter what the underlining circumstances might be? Spiritual guru Vaishali, and Auschwitz survivor Victor Frankl show us the benefits of living an examined life

BY VAISHALI LOVE

Reality.  This crazy little thing called existence. What is it? Most likely, Lilly Tomlin gave the best celebrity answer in her one-woman show. She described it as little more than a collective hunch. Of course, she also described reality as a crutch for people who can’t cope with drugs, and a leading cause of stress. And here I thought it was something complicated. Start with a collective hunch, throw in some drugs, and add a dash of stress. I got it!

Reality is college life in the 1970s! For the sake of this discussion, it is not important whether or not we fully comprehend or even agree upon the scientifically approved definition of reality. The mechanics of reality, quantum or otherwise, are immaterial.  What is paramount is the meaning and perspective we freely give to reality. (more…)

Judge Bolton’s Decision Invalidating Parts of New Arizona Immigration Law Should Be Overturned

The central premise of Judge Bolton’s decision enjoining four parts of Arizona’s immigration law rests on the faulty premise that the state law violates the doctrine of federal pre-emption. The law, however, is in aid of federal immigration law and neither obstructs nor increases penalties for immigration law violations. Moreover, it does not attempt to alter the standards used by the federal government in determining who is legally resident in this country. Indeed, the Arizona law is in aid of domestic law affected by illegals in Arizona who are contributing to drug and human trafficking and other serious crimes within the state. (more…)

Drill beneath the surface of the BP story, and disturbing truths are revealed. Years before the BP oil rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico, the Obama Administration was on notice of widespread corruption among regulators who oversaw oil-rig safety.  President Barack Obama and Interior Secretary Salazar knew that they lacked necessary proof of rig safety when the president announced in March his intention to open coastal waters to new drilling. We all face occasions when we want to make a lasting impression. (I’m not talking a Tonya Harding kind of lasting impression.) Whether you are applying for a job, making new friends, building your client base, or looking for a date, you need to separate yourself from the crowd.

How to be Unforgettable:

1) Establish relationship first. Listen, be curious, be genuinely caring. Focus on the other person instead of yourself. Who is this person? This is how you establish relationship. (more…)
